Requirements for Purchase of Foreign Currencies

  • Purchase of foreign currency from/to individuals as per published rates.
  • Original and valid CNIC/NICOP/POC is required for identity and verification.
  • Passport with valid visa is required for identity in case of a foreigner / travelers.
Currency Exchange
  • For all foreign currency purchase transactions equivalent to USD 2,500/- or above (or equivalent in other currencies) company will retain copies of identification documents i.e., CNIC/NICOP/POC/Passport (having valid visa on it or any other proof of legal stay of a foreigner in Pakistan).

Requirements for Sale of Foreign Currencies

  • Sell foreign currency from / to individuals as per published rates.
  • For all foreign currency sale transactions, company will retain copies of identification documents i.e., CNIC/NICOP/POC/Passport (having valid visa on it or any other proof of legal stay of a foreigner in Pakistan) as the case may be; after having seen the original document.
  • For all transactions equivalent to USD 500 or above, company will carry out biometric verification of Pakistani Nationals and maintain the record thereof.
  • Company shall obtain original online Verisys slip issued by NADRA, in case biometrics of any individual cannot be verified from NADRA due to:
    1. Customer’s permanent physical disability (e.g. limbs disability, uneven texture/erased/unclear fingerprints, etc.)
    2. Customer’s temporary issue ( e.g. wounded/bandaged hands/mehndi, etc.)
    3. NADRA system/data/connectivity or technical issue beyond a reasonable time.
  • For all transactions equivalent to USD 1,000/- or above (or equivalent in other currencies) the company will record the purpose of transaction and obtain supporting documents. Company shall also record the source of funds.
  • For all transactions equivalent to USD 2,000/- or above (or equivalent in other currencies) the company will receive contra credit in PKR through bank transfer or cheque from the personal account of the customer.
  • Company may sell foreign currency to individuals while ensuring the following limits:
    1. Maximum limit per person per day for buying foreign currency (in the form of cash or outward remittance) is USD 10,000 or equivalent in other foreign currencies.
    2. Maximum limit per person per calendar year for buying foreign currency (in the form of cash or outward remittance) is USD 100,000 or equivalent in other foreign currencies.
    3. While selling the foreign currency to the individuals the Company will also adhere to purpose specific limits under the applicable regulations.
    4. For this purpose, the Company shall obtain an undertaking from individual customer at  the time of each sale transaction that he/she has not already reached the limit of USD 100,000/- per calendar year or USD 10,000/- per day and these limits will not be breached after the current transaction. The company will ensure, through placement of appropriate checks in their information systems, that the above limits are not breached at their Company’s level.
